The
project, that represents a concrete action to promote and strengthen
women and children rights, has been delineated and implemented by the
Italian NGO MAIS – Movement for Empowerment, Interchange and Solidarity.
The initiative beneficiaries are 2000 men, 3000 women and more than 5000
children in Sohag Governorate, in Upper Egypt. The project is geared at
changing the social and cultural attitudes that render women and young
girls vulnerable to violent and harmful practices.
To
contribute to this ambitious objective, MAIS will enhance the
development of civil society organizations capacities to address gender
issues. It will also improve their advocacy and lobbing capacity for the
application of human rights in several fields, such as law, religion,
society and health.
 With
the aim of effectively implement the Egyptian law on gender equality and
protection of women rights, the project will provide services to the
community such as medical, legal and psychological consultancies and a
micro credit program to support the economic empowerment of
women.
