Sustainable Systems Development
for Date Palm & Olive Production in North Sinai

Sustainable Systems Development for Date Palm & Olive Production in North SinaiSustainable Systems Development for Date Palm & Olive Production in North Sinai Applicant: Egyptian Association for Science and Technology Experts (EASTE)

Implementing agency: EASTE in partnership  with the Egyptian Association for Science and Technology Services (EASTS) and the Environmental Protection Association for North Sinai

Total Budget: LE 6.638.000 (around USD 1.207.054)

The Sinai Peninsula has been defined as priority area by the Egyptian National Development Plan, representing the target of several and important efforts exerted by the Egyptian Government in terms of provision of basic infrastructures.

The three-year initiative aims at contributing to the human and social development of the Northern Sinai by supporting the agro-food sector. In particular, the project will be addressed to the overall production chain of date palms and olives, from harvesting to selling, with special attention for research and development activities. An Environmental Quality Standard - EQS will be identified and then adopted by enterprises of the sector.

In order to create a sustainable development model, which could be applied to further areas in the country, the first beneficiaries of the intervention will be the most vulnerable groups in the community, who will benefit from the creation of income generating activities, with relevant impact on female employment.
