Sustainable tourism and environment protection are
complementary elements, which has been introduced in the economic reform
recently launched by the Egyptian Government.
In this framework, the initiative
promoted by the Italian NGO
Cooperazione Internazionale Sud Sud –
CISS, will support the improvement of the living
conditions in the New Valley Governorate. Project goals will be achieved
by promoting a sustainable development of tourism based on the
enhancement and networking of "ecotouristic" resources in the area, and
on the development of adequate skills for natural resources sustainable
management.
Through this initiative, teachers, craftsmen, tour guides
and farmers living in Kharga, Dakhla and Farafra oases will
benefit from training courses on eco-tourism and contribute to the
formulation of an integrated development plan for tourism in the region.
The
project will also realize the complete map of the most relevant tourist
attractions of the New Valley along with the upgrading of two major
archaeological sites.
The synergies between the project and the
Egyptian-Italian Environmental Cooperation Program (EIECP) are also
considerable being the New Valley one of the key areas of its
intervention: the “ecoturistic” center that CISS will build in Kharga
will integrate EIECP interventions, thus providing the oases of the New
Valley with a center dedicated to the ecotourism promotion.
