In
Minya Governorate, agriculture represents the most important economic
resource in terms of commerce and in terms of inhabitants’ occupation.
Despite the great efforts which are exerted by the Governorate with the
limited funds available, solid waste collection and disposal both in
rural and urban areas are still inadequate.
The
excellent results so far achieved through the creation of the Solid
Waste Management Unit (SWMU), that has been established and equipped
during a previous pilot project (Italian
Egyptian Debt for Development Swap Program – I phase) realized in
Minya Governorate, have paved the way for the formulation of this
initiative in order to continue the waste collection and recycling
in the area.
Besides
the establishment of a Composting Plant and the fertilizers production
for agricultural purposes, the project will foster the know-how transfer
from Italy with the added value of Italian technical assistance. In this
regard, a training course for the management of the recycling plant,
including a study visit in Italy, will be organized in the framework of
the initiative. |
